Swang Space - A lighting design consultancy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Suan Lin is the founder and principal lighting designer at Swang Space, a lighting design consultancy studio based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Suan’s journey into the world of lighting design began unexpectedly. With a background in mechanical and electrical engineering, her career initially took a different path. While working at NDY (Norman Disney & Young) Malaysia in 2012, she was drawn to the intricate details of lighting design and sought opportunities to explore this field further. Her curiosity and passion for lighting led her to take on additional responsibilities within the company, marking the beginning of her lighting design career.

Over the years, Suan has honed her skills and knowledge through hands-on experience and mentorship from industry experts. Her fascination with the transformative power of light has been a driving force in her career. Suan believes in continuous learning and is eager to connect with other lighting professionals to expand her expertise and create even more innovative lighting solutions.

At Swang Space, Suan and her team are dedicated to crafting lighting designs that not only illuminate spaces but also evoke emotions and enhance the overall ambiance.

Our Flagship Projects

Swang Space takes pride in delivering exceptional lighting solutions. Two projects stand out as particular highlights:

  • TSLAW Tower: Our inaugural project, TSLAW Tower, showcased our ability to transform a space through innovative lighting design. The results speak for themselves.
  • W Hotel, Kuala Lumpur: This prestigious project allowed us to explore the dynamic world of hospitality lighting. We immersed ourselves in vibrant colors and textures, creating a truly unforgettable ambiance.

These projects represent significant milestones in our journey, and we continue to push the boundaries of lighting design with every new endeavor.

Overcoming Challenges

Suan’s journey in lighting design has not been without its obstacles. At one point, feeling discouraged by the industry’s limited growth in Kuala Lumpur, she considered pursuing a different career path. However, determination and the support of her network proved to be pivotal. Through perseverance and seizing opportunities, Suan successfully navigated these challenges and established herself as a sought-after lighting designer.

Inspired by Light

Light has always captivated Suan. Its mechanics, its effects, and its profound influence on our moods and energy levels are endlessly fascinating. This passion drives Suan to create spaces that feel like home, where people can relax and unwind. It’s also the driving force behind sharing knowledge and expertise with others.
